Famitsu ha pubblicato la classifica dei 100 giochi più venduti in Giappone dal 1 gennaio 2001 al 29 settembre 2013. La lista non include riedizioni e giochi digitali, tenendo conto di questo stupisce scoprire che New Super Mario Bros è il gioco più venduto del secolo in Giappone.
Il titolo Nintendo domina la classifica, seguito da Pokemon Diamante e Perla e da Pokemon Bianco e Nero. La top ten è praticamente dominio della casa di Kyoto, ad eccezione di Monster Hunter Freedom 3 di Capcom, che occupa l’ottava posizione.
